Mr. Doyle Dillard, 58 years old of Chatsworth, Ga. was last seen on 12/31/2016 wearing a dark colored short sleeved shirt with writing on it, blue jeans and dark blue Nike’s with red and silver on them. He was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition gold in color with a gray koala bear on the dash. Attached is the most recent drivers license photo from GA and a picture of a similar vehicle to the one Mr. Dillard owns and was last seen driving. North Georgia Communities Feed Thanksgiving meal to Firefighting volunteers working away from home

Raging fires have been spreading through dry land in the North Georgia Mountains for weeks. A few sprinkles of rain fell in the past few days but really didn’t make much of an impact.
The local community appreciates the firefighters and a local church in Chatsworth decided to show it on Thanksgiving Day! The First Baptist Church of Chatsworth fed over 400 out of town firefighters who didn’t make it home to be with their families. Locals from various areas including Blue Ridge brought food to the Church to assist in the program to feed the firefighters. Much of the food cooked in their homes and a local Ingles Market also took orders from those who wanted to donate a meal but didn’t have time to cook.
A local man told us, “It’s a small effort to say a big thank you to those firefighters protecting us and our homes.”
Firefighters have been working tirelessly for weeks to battle the wildfires and a home cooked meal of turkey was an extension of the gratitude felt by the folks in the North Georgia Mountains.

GDOT: Edge pavement repair continues in Murray County

CHATSWORTH, Ga. – A Georgia DOT Maintenance crew resumes today its work on repairing the deteriorating edges of pavement on State Route (SR) 286 in Murray County. Work will proceed daily Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.
Edge repair is a maintenance activity that is intended to guard against pavement failure along the edges due to the action of traffic and the loss of edge support that occurs due to the presence of water, aggressive-growth vegetation, and wind from either traffic or the atmosphere. Georgia DOT’s edge repairs are designed to minimize the effects of shoulder drop-offs and maximize the safety of the roadway for the traveling public.
You know that construction work zones are dangerous, but do you know that they are not always stationary? Moving work zones that conduct maintenance activities like litter pickup, asphalt repair, mowing, edge pavement repair, pavement marking and sweeping may move slowly and stop intermittently. Treat moving work zones like any other – Pay Attention – Slow Down – Watch for Workers. And always, expect the unexpected. Work zone safety is in your hands.

Search warrants executed at Murray County Probate Court office in Chatsworth, GA
Chatsworth, Georgia – On Thursday, February 2, 2017, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), with the Murray County Sheriff’s Office and the Conasauga Circuit District Attorney’s Office executed a search warrant at the Murray County Probate Court’s office in Chatsworth. The search was for records related to missing funds.
The GBI’s Calhoun office began their investigation of the probate court office in February 2016 at the request of Conasauga Circuit District Attorney, Bert Poston. During an examination of the court’s accounting system, it was found that records relating to fines and disbursements had been altered by an employee.
Anyone with any information concerning the investigation is asked to call the GBI Calhoun office at 706-624-1424.
North Georgia Prostitution Sting Arrest 8

Eight people were arrested in a prostitution sting operation in Dalton Wednesday night.
All were charged with pandering. Police had been receiving multiple complaints about prostitutes and took action.
Police placed ads online, and used an undercover officer who posed as a prostitute for the operation.
Dalton police say those arrested in the operation were:
- 27-year-old Banner Anibal Tomas-Bail – Dalton
- 28-year-old Oscar Holliday – Dalton
- 33-year-old Joseph Brandt – Fort Oglethorpe
- 63-year-old Muhammed Rasheed – Ellenwood, GA
- 28-year-old Kyle Michael Chadwick – Chatsworth
- 41-year-old Mark John Gibson – Tunnel Hill
- 59-year-old Stacey Gene Hill – Chattanooga
- 39-year-old Miguel Jarquin-Ordaz – Dalton
Each arrestee was charged with one count of misdemeanor pandering against a person 18 years of age or older.
Mr. Albert Kenneth Wheat: Obituary

Mr. Albert Kenneth Wheat age 76 of Chatsworth, passed away Sunday April 9, 2017 at his residence.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton and was a craftsman.
Mr. Wheat was preceded in death by his parents, J. L. and Julia Lee Saylors Wheat; daughter, Martha Jo Phillips; brothers and sisters.
Survivors include, wife, Robbie Stinnett Wheat, Chatsworth; daughters and son-in-law, Donna Gail Seda, Chatsworth, Barbara Ann and Donnie Silcox, Pioneer, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Lois Wheat, Crandall; 7 grandchildren, Kendra Barrera, Joey Phillips, Mitchell Phillips, Tino Wheat, Ashley Garcia, Derrick Silcox, and Daniel Silcox; 7 great-grandchildren; Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Wheat will be held Wednesday April 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Dr. Greg Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Peeples Funeral Home & Crematory of Chatsworth is in charge of the arrangements.
GBI Investigation Leads to the Arrest of a Murray County Deputy

Murray County, GA – On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, GBI Calhoun was requested by Murray County Sheriff’s Office to investigate allegations of missing money from the Murray County evidence room. The subsequent investigation has led to the arrest of Deputy Donna Woody, age 49, who was the evidence custodian.
Woody was charged with 6 counts of tampering with evidence, 1 count of violation of oath of office, and 1 count of theft by fiduciary. Information obtained during the course of the investigation indicates that an amount in excess of $10,000 was allegedly stolen from the evidence room. Woody turned herself in to the Murray County Sheriff’s Office on the morning of Thursday, October 5, 2017.

- Union County Schools will be CLOSED Monday, September 11th and Tuesday, September 12th due to Gov. Nathan Deal declaring a state of emergency for all 159 counties in Georgia. Please continue to monitor here for further updates.
- Fannin County Schools will be closed for students and all personnel on Monday, September 11 and Tuesday, September 12, for students, as well as all faculty and staff, except for 12-month personnel, district directors, and principals. As long as it is safe to do so, all 12-month personnel, as well as district directors and principals, should anticipate reporting by 9:00 a.m. on September 12. These personnel should note, though, that this expectation may be revised, depending on the weather conditions overnight; nonetheless, if you ever believe it is unsafe to report, please notify your immediate supervisor. In addition, the Board of Education work session meeting that was scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, has been cancelled. Please continue to stay safe!
- Pickens County Schools closed Monday, September 11th – TWELVE MONTH EMPLOYEES REPORT AT NORMAL TIME. Schools will also be closed on Tuesday, September 12. Twelve month employees will be contacted late Monday as to whether they will be required to come to work on Tuesday. All school activities, including athletic events and after-school programs, will be canceled.
- Gilmer County Schools will be closed Monday, September 11th and Sepember 12th due to Hurricane Irma. We have made this decision after consultation with local emergency management authorities and careful consideration of safety factors, such as the probability of severe winds especially at higher elevations, debris, dangerous road conditions and downed power lines left in its wake. Only 12 month staff should report if safe to do so.
- Dawson County Schools will be closed on Monday, September 11, and Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Twelve month employees will operate on a 2 hour delay.
- Lumpkin County Schools closed due to the weather forecast for our area, Lumpkin County Schools will be closed on Monday, September 11, and Tuesday, September 12, 2017. The anticipated high winds pose a significant threat to our students and staff. We understand that weather predictions are not always accurate, but we cannot ignore the potentially dangerous situation that this storm poses. Our number one priority is to keep our students and staff safe! Wednesday will still be a early release day as planned so that teachers will be available for parent conferences. 12 month employees should report if it is safe to do so.
- Towns County Schools closed Monday, September 11th and Tuesday, September 12th for all students. All employees should report at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 12th if safe to do so.
- White County Schools due to the severe weather forecast, White County Schools are closed for students and staff Monday, September 11, and Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Please be safe!

Deputies Show Appreciation for Invest in K9

Deputies Malone and McEntire presenting a new banner to Robin Scott of Invest in K9. They are so appreciative for the time and dedication she and her husband have given to raising funds in support of Law Enforcement K-9’s in the North Georgia / Southeast Tennessee area. Working for countless weekends they would setup their table at various locations seeking donations to provide Bullet Proof vests for Police K-9’s on their own time and at their own expense.
A hero in our eyes, and a true friend to Law Enforcement and their K-9’s. She is directly responsible for soliciting the donations to buy the vests for K-9 “Irko” of the Chatsworth Police Dept., and K-9’s “Spike”, “Rudy” and “Tipsy” of the Murray County Sheriffs Office. Thank You, Robin!
Child in Cage – 2 Arrested in Murray County

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has confirmed a child was found locked in a cage in a Murray County home resulting in the arrest of two women.
A 911 call made at approximately 11am on Thursday, August 6th, led a Murray County Deputy to a home on Bahamas Drive in Chatsworth, Georgia. The call was a report alleging a child had been left alone. The deputy met with an unidentified woman accompanied by a female child. According to authorities the deputy gave an all clear once he established the child had adult supervision.
Later the same day, at approximately 3:15pm, another 911 call came in by the same person who provided additional information and requested police to investigate the home further. The deputy returned to the home and met with Wanda Redfern and saw the same child. The deputy gained consent to enter the home and upon further investigation the deputy found two cages inside a bedroom area. An 11-year-old boy was inside one cage and the other cage was empty. Additional Murray County deputies and GBI agents responded along with the Department of Family and Children Services.
The mother of the children, Stephanie Elizabeth Stone, was arrested and charged with Cruelty to Children in the 1st degree, False Imprisonment, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Wanda Sue Redfern was also arrested for Cruelty to Children in the 1st Degree and False Imprisonment. Both women remain in custody and no bond has been set at this time.
The investigation is ongoing by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office and GBI. FYN will update when additional information becomes available.
