GBI Investigation Leads to the Arrest of a Murray County Deputy

Murray County, GA – On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, GBI Calhoun was requested by Murray County Sheriff’s Office to investigate allegations of missing money from the Murray County evidence room. The subsequent investigation has led to the arrest of Deputy Donna Woody, age 49, who was the evidence custodian.

Woody was charged with 6 counts of tampering with evidence, 1 count of violation of oath of office, and 1 count of theft by fiduciary. Information obtained during the course of the investigation indicates that an amount in excess of $10,000 was allegedly stolen from the evidence room. Woody turned herself in to the Murray County Sheriff’s Office on the morning of Thursday, October 5, 2017.

K9 Unit checks on suspicious person finds 1/2 lb of meth

Murray County check leads to drug related arrest.

On Friday, August 15,  a K9 unit in Murray County checked on a suspicious person.   During the investigation they located 1/2 lb. of Meth, and $3,118.00 in cash, along with scales used to facilitate the sale of Meth.   Arrested was William Ray Gentry age 42 of Sparta, Tennessee. He is currently housed in the Murray County Jail.

Short Pursuit over the weekend ends in Drug Arrest in Murray County

Over the weekend one of the Murray County  K9 Units were involved in a short pursuit.

The pursuit of a small green car began in the area of Weaver Rd. and ended behind the 1st Baptist church in Eton.  The chase resulted in 2 females and 1 male who were captured immediately.   Another male was at large until located the next day.  Both females had concealed drugs on their body when they entered the Jail.

Murray County traffic stop results in 5 arrests

A traffic stop by one of the alert Murray County Deputies resulted in 5 arrests.

The vehicle was initially stopped for operation of unsafe vehicle and no seat belt and ended in 5 arrests.   Approximately 14 gms of marijuana along with scales, and grinders were located in the vehicle. Along with 2 small children that were found hidden in the back of the vehicle unrestrained.

EMS were called to the scene to check the welfare of the children. A toddler was also in the vehicle in a restraint seat. all 5 were charged with Possession w/intent to distribute.   Also charges were issued for 3 seat belt violations,  additionally multiple open containers of alcohol were located in the vehicle.

Illegal Dump site in Murray county

Another Illegal dump site was cleaned up by Murray County Sheriff Langford’s Inmate work Detail.

This one was found on Halls Chapel Road. 87 Tires were removed by Detention Officer Brian Cooper and the Inmates. If you see Illegal Dumping occurring or have information about this or any other illegal dumping. Please call Murray County 911 or t he Murray County Sheriff’s Office at 706-695-4592

Missing man in Murray County Located safe and sound

Mr. Ledford has been located and is safe.

MISSING / ENDANGERED Please be on the lookout for Marvin “Ray” Ledford.   He was last seen in Murray County on Saturday night, March 27th. He was driving his Blue and Tan 1998 Chevrolet Z71.

Circumstances indicate that he may be in need of immediate medical attention.  Ledford is 54 years old, 5′ 10″ and 140 lbs.   If you see him or know where he is please call 911 or the Murray County Sheriff’s Office 706.695.4592.

Murray County Sheriff’s Office warns of New Scam

News

The Murray County Sheriff’s office would like to make everyone aware of a new scam that’s going around. One of the Detectives (of all people) received a call on Tuesday – March 22nd from someone claiming to be working with his cell phone provider, and stating that his phone service would be shut off if he didn’t provide payment to him. When the Detective identified himself the person hung up.

The Sheriff’s office  has identified the call as coming from Brooklyn, NY

If you receive one of these calls simply hang up. If you are unsure of your account status, contact your service provider yourself.

Firearm & drugs discovered in stolen vehicle stop

Investigators with the Murray County Sheriff’s Office along with the assistance of Georgia State Patrol and their K-9 unit conducted a traffic stop on a recently stolen vehicle.

While patrolling the are of south 225 in Murray County,  investigators recognized a stolen vehicle, which was taken from Triple C Market.   Officers initiated a traffic stop at Center Hill Baptist Church. While searching the stolen vehicle a small amount of narcotics along with a firearm was discovered and confiscated from the driver. Also located in the vehicle were personal identification documents belonging to different individuals.

Arrested was Kristen Weaver. This Stolen Vehicle is part of the investigation of Ronald “Frankie” Henderson.

GBI Assists Murray County in Toddler Death Investigation

News

The Georgia  Bureau of Investigation is assisting Murray County officers with investigation of the death of a toddler.

The GBI have joined the investigation after the Murray County Sheriff’s Office responded to the death of a 2 year old.  Authorities responded to an address off Leonard Bridge Road on Wednesday January 13th.  The authorities requested assistance at that time.  Deputies have reported no signs of foul play however the cause of death is unknown.

Deputies Show Appreciation for Invest in K9

Community

Deputies Malone and McEntire presenting a new banner to Robin Scott of Invest in K9.   They are so appreciative for the time and dedication she and her husband have given to raising funds in support of Law Enforcement K-9’s in the North Georgia / Southeast Tennessee area.   Working for countless weekends they would setup their table at various locations seeking donations to provide Bullet Proof vests for Police K-9’s on their own time and at their own expense.
