Marvin L. Ray, age 80 of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, February 14th 2019 in CHI Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dorothy Ray; and sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Gordon Flowers

He is survived by his wife, Gail Ray; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Debbie Ray and Timothy and Judy Ray; daughters and son-in-law, Tammy and Joe Parks and Tasha Cooper; step-children, David and Angie Hornbuckle, and Renee and Curry Smith; brother, Jerry Ray; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Mike Garrett; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Marvin L. Ray will be 2:00 pm Saturday, February 16th 2019 from the Chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Chatsworth with Rev. Ronnie Smith officiating. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, February 15th 2019.

Mr. Keith Martin “Simon” Hutchins, age 81, of Crandall passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at his home.

He was a member of Dewberry Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lynley Mead Hutchins; mother, Nina Fern Eastman Hutchins; son, Randall Hutchins; twin brother, Kay Hutchins; and brother, Dana Hutchins.

Survivors include his wife, Gennie Hansird Hutchins; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael & Angie Young of Rocky Face and Jeffrey Young of Dalton; daughters and son-in-law, Angela Collen & Eddie Lucas of Byhalia, Ohio and Angel Patterson of Chatsworth; sister, Bonnie Lou Taylor of Ohio; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mr. Hutchins will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Bowen and Rev. Jerry Davis officiating. Military rites by the American Legion Post 167 of Chatsworth.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00 pm until the service hour.

In addition to flowers, the family will accept memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Rondal Douglas Barrett, age 74, of Dalton, passed away on February 8, 2019, at Hamilton Medical Center.

Ron was born on January 24, 1945, in Dalton to the late James Clyde and Veta Kay Barrett. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, J.C. Barrett, Truett Barrett, Donald Barrett, Betty Keeler, and Barbara Clover.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Barrett, son and wife, Chris and Holly Barrett; grandchildren, Canaan, and Ashton Barrett; foster grandchild, Ashton Rylie; sister and brother in law, Nellie and Leonard Suggs, several nieces and nephews. At his request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 2 pm at United Memorial Gardens.

Mr. James “Bud” Plemons, age 91, of Crandall, passed away on February 6, 2019 in Hamilton Medical Center.

He is preceded in death by his parents Rev. Charlie and Pearl Plemons, son: David Plemons, daughter: Diane Plemons.

Mr. Plemons is survived by his wife of 73 years: Mary Plemons of the residence, son and daughter in law: Ricky and D D. Plemons of Crandall, grandchildren: Brian Sitton, Missy Smith, Jody Frazier, Richey Plemons and LaKeisha Plemons, great-grandchildren: Jacob, McKayla, Noah, Brody, Jordan, Taylor, Cadence, Grayson and Nico. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Service for Mr. Plemons will be held on Saturday, February 9 at 11 am, in the Chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Green officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richey Plemons, Jody Frazier, Brian Sitton, McKayla Smith, Steven Smith and Jordan Frazier . The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 until 9 pm at the funeral home.

Robert Costello

DECEMBER 24, 1936 ~ FEBRUARY 6, 2019

Robert (Bob) Norbert Costello, 82, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, February 6th, 2019 in the company of his family, near his home in Chatsworth, Georgia. Bob was born on December 24th, 1936 to Norbert Robert and Grace Costello in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was one of three children- his sisters Dolores (McGuire) and Helen (Finnegan) have preceded him in passing.

Bob graduated from Audubon High School in Audubon, New Jersey- and it was in New Jersey that he met his beautiful bride and wife of 62 years- Phyllis A. Costello (Strater). He soon after enlisted in the United States Army. After serving proudly and being Honorably discharged, he and Phyllis married and Bob was hired by the General Electric Company- where he began his lifelong career in Military and Aerospace electrical testing and manufacturing. Bob was a member of a small Team that built a Military “data capsule” satellite which took the first pictures from space of the curvature of the Earth – proof that “the Earth is round”! This capsule now resides in the Smithsonian Institute.

Bob was forever proud his wife, Phyllis, son Robert (Bob) Costello, daughter Lisa (Scott), daughter in law Marianne (Hart) Costello, son in law Matthew Scott, grandchildren Rachael Simon (Ciotti), James Simon, Robert and Hannah Costello and numerous nieces and nephews. He was always quick with a story, which was reflective of his Irish heritage. He was also very proud of his service in the US Army and his career work at GE Re-Entry Systems in Philadelphia, PA. He was able to enjoy a long retirement and moved to the South.

Military services and interment for Bob will be held at the Georgia National Military Cemetery in Canton Georgia. The service will be private.

Danny Leroy Widener, age 66 of Tunnel Hill, passed away Sunday, February 3rd 2019 in Hamilton Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Widener; mother, Myrtle Rhodes; father-In-Law, Ed Hughes; and brother-in-law, Charlie Gann.

He is survived by his wife, Donna (Hughes) Widener; children, Benjie, Brandi, Stephanie, and Shane Widener; and Jennifer (Jerry) Bramblette; 11 grandchildren; 1 godson, Caleb Randles; sister, Jean Gann; brother, Michael Widener; mother-in-law, Faye Hughes; sisters-in-law, Debi (Joe) Williams and Diane Hughes; brothers-in-law, Dale and Kenny Hughes; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Danny Widener will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, February 6th 2019 from the Chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Tunnel Hill with Rev. Lillard Stringer officiating. Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Mrs. Geraldine “Gerri” Quarles Pettit, age 84, of Chatsworth passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Gerri was a member of Holly Creek Baptist Church. Gerri was the love of Walt’s life. She had a great love and devotion for her entire family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Felton Quarles; mother, Rhoda Anna Holcomb Quarles; brothers, John Harrison Quarles, Sr. and Emmett Quarles; and sisters, Greathel Sitton, Rachel Scoggins, Desma Templeton, and Catherine Wright.

Survivors include her husband, Walter “Walt” Pettit, Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, Waymond & Susie Roberts of Chatsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Shellia & Danny Godfrey of Chatsworth; sister, Frances Faith; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other special family, Kathy & Paul Thomasson, Karen & Mike Wolff, and Walter, Jr. and Liane Pettit.

Mrs. Catherine Wright, age 90, of Chatsworth, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Wright was a retired Chatsworth Elementary Cafeteria Manager.  She was a long time member of Holly Creek Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Charlie Wright, daughter: Patricia Wright, parents: Felt and Rhonda Quarles, brothers: J. H. Quarles and Emmett Quarles, sister: Rachel Scroggins, Grethel Sitton, and Desma Templeton, great-grandson: Ian Wright.

Survivors include daughter and son in law: Cathy and John Waters of Chatsworth, son and daughter in law: Charles and Kim Wright of Cumming, grandchildren: Kym and Danny Flood of Chatsworth, Charles Wright Jr. of Dalton, Christina and Tommy Champion of Chickamauga, Kyle Smith of Cumming, Aimee Clifford of Atlanta, great-grandchildren: Emma Banks, Ethan Wright, Caden Wright, Jessie Champion, Zori Champion, Logan Flood,  Hannah Flood, and John Stanley.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

George Wilkie Bryant

August 29, 1943 – June 01, 2019

Mr. George Wilkie Bryant, age 75, of Crandall, Georgia went home to be with his Savior and Lord on June 1, 2019. He fought a good fight for 17 months with cholangiocarcinoma and liver cancer.

He was born August 29, 1943, in Dalton, Georgia. He was a 1961 graduate of Murray County High School. He studied Voice at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was a longtime member of Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was a dedicated elder, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. He sang bass for 30 years with the Canaanland Quartet. He served six years in the United States Army Reserves. After retirement, he was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Little Book Ministry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Jane Wilkie Bryant, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Magdalene Stafford.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Alicia Stafford Bryant, and sons, JoDan Bryant and wife, Lisa, of Crandall and Jamie Bryant and fiancée, Anne Krumme, of Dalton, Georgia. He was affectionately known as “Gramps” by his granddaughter, Kaitlin Nicole Bryant of Varnell, Georgia and grandson, Avery Clint Bryant of Crandall. He is also survived by his sister, Debbie Bryant Wilson of Crandall, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Gail Stafford and Janice and Jennis Everette. A number of cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of George Bryant will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm. Reverend Tom Clark, Larry Brock, and Patrick Wilson are officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 167 of Chatsworth.

The family will receive friends at Peeples Funeral Home of Chatsworth, Georgia from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Monday, June 3, 2019. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Gideons International, P. O. Box 44, Chatsworth, Georgia 30705.

He loved his God, his family, and others in that exact order. He never met a stranger and left everlasting fingerprints on everyone’s heart he met. He will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Elrod, and brother, Carl Elrod.
