Mr. Willard T. Bates age 54 of Crandall, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Erlanger Hospital.

Willard was preceded in death by his father, Junior Bates; mother, Betty Ella Lee Hampton Davis; brother, Wendell Bates.

Survivors include son, Dillon J. Bates of Dalton; brothers and sister-in-law, Jessy and Judy McGinnis, Chatsworth, and Jonathan Dooley, Dalton; special cousins, James Hampton, Chris Hampton, and Kim Benitez –all of Crandall; special uncle, George Hampton of Crandall; nieces and nephews, Miranda McGinnis, Brittany McGinnis, and Jordan, Jade and John Dooley.

No services will be held.

Mr.Jerry Gene Tankersley, age 81, passed away at his residence  July 26, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents: Kermit and Eva Winkler Tankersley, brothers: James E, Tim, and  Garland Tankersley and sister:  Edna Earl Scarbrough.

Mr. Tankersley is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jeanette Tankersley, son and daughter in law: Anthony and Donna Tankersley,daughter, and son in law: June and James Boutwell, all of Chatsworth, great-grandchildren: Sydney Tankersley, Bianca Miranda both of Chatsworth, great-grandchildren: James Palmer, of Chatsworth, nieces, and nephews also survive.

Memorial services for Mr. Tankersley will be Monday, July 29, 2019, at 12 noon. Minster Martin Fannin will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 10 am till the funeral hour at 12 noon.

Katherine Elaine “Kacky” Bauswell, age 46, of Chatsworth and formerly of Scott County, TN passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

She was employed by Shaw Industries for 22 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed yard sales, auctions, Bingo, and talking with her friends and family.

Mrs. Bauswell was preceded in death by her grandparents, Arlo and Beulah Strunk and Hoyle and Ella Jean Goodman; father-in-law, Rev. Robert Bauswell; and uncle, Manuel Strunk.

Survivors include her husband, James Bauswell; daughter, Brianna Bauswell of Chatsworth; parents, Carl and Ella Strunk of Chatsworth; brother and sister-in-law, Carl, Jr. and Mandy Strunk of Scott County, TN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Stasha and Johnny Phillips of Scott County, TN, Carletta and Clinton Flood of Chatsworth, April and Tom Lay of Scott County, TN, and Tina and Jimmy Wilson of Chatsworth; nieces, Ashley Strunk, Amber Lay, and Valerie Phillips; nephews, Zachery Lay, Stephen Strunk (“Brother”), Aiden Flood (“Little Man”), Mason Lay, Michael Hedges, and Jeremiah Phillips; and special friends, Charlotte Huffines, Dale Smith, Michelle and Chris Betterton, and Dallas Scott.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bauswell will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, June 7, 2019 in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Raper officiating. Interment will follow at Center Valley Cemetery.

Mr. Billy Ray Minyard, 82 of Chatsworth, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at AdventHealth Gordon.

Billy was a member of Homeland Baptist Church. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved his bird. Billy was a faithful walker and had completed 5,000 miles and 60,000 laps at the Bradley Wellness Center.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Lyndal Minyard; parents, Joseph Dewey and Willie Estelle Minyard; brothers, Samuel Dane Minyard and Jimmy Minyard; sisters, Francis Eads, Linda Castleberry, Mary Griffin, Edna Minyard; daughter-in-law, Eva Minyard.

Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Sally Minyard of Apache Junction, Arizona, David Minyard of Chatsworth; daughter, Linda Mosley; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Dean Green of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Adrian Dean Green, Adam Garrett Minyard, Andrew Jarrett Minyard; nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Billy Ray Minyard will be held Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Poteet officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Mrs. Linda Gail Smith Lawson, age 70, of Crandall, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Hamilton Medical Center.

Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by parents: Earnest and Reba Rod, first husband: Kenneth Smith, brothers: Johnny Roe and Willie Roe.

She is survived by her husband of six years: Sherman Lawson,, sisters and brothers: Judy Dotson of Chickamauga, Joann Rittenhouse, Ricky Roe and Tommy Roe all of Chatsworth and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Gail will be on Friday, February 15 at 1 pm in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Rev Billy Webb officiating. Interment will be in Ball Creek Cemetery. Paul E. Hall, age 82, of Chatsworth passed away, Friday, February 8, 2019, at his home. His children were present at the time.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jo Hall, mother and father Velma Stuart Hall and Grady “Urb” Hall, step son David Weaver, brothers James Hall and Raymond Hall.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Tammy and Mark Ridley, Paul and Michele Hall, Donna Ridley, sister, and brother-in-law Robbie and Bill Pruitt, brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Mary Nell Hall, sister-in-law Gayle, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Mr. Hall retired from the City of Dalton after a long career.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 9th at 3 PM in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with his children giving eulogies. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, February 9th beginning at 1 PM till the funeral hour at 3 PM

Sherman Eugene Leonard

September 26, 1937 – February 07, 2019

Sherman Eugene Leonard, age 81, of Chatsworth, Georgia passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019.

He was a member of Center Valley United Methodist Church and the Georgia, East Tennessee, and American Hereford Associations.

Sherman was the co-owner and president of Leonard Brothers Construction for over 56 years. During that time, he displayed a gift for quality craftsmanship and a strong work ethic. He was also a great mentor to his grandsons, to whom he passed on his knowledge and skills.

He loved his community and the many customers that he served throughout the years. He was a member of the Murray County High School Hall of Fame, and the highlight of his career was the reconstruction of the rock building that formerly served as the high school.

He enjoyed raising polled Hereford cattle for over 70 years. Many long evenings were spent preparing his truck and trailer for traveling to local, state, and national shows. It always delighted Sherman to watch his grandchildren groom their cattle in anticipation of the next show.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Aaron Leonard; mother, Lecil Cox Leonard; grandmother, Myrtle McCamy Leonard; sister-in-law, Ima Jean Leonard; and brother-in-law, Ron Plylar.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Peggy Leonard; daughters and son-in-law, Kay Lynne & Don McCurdy of Chatsworth and Sherri Leonard Ridley of Chatsworth; brothers and sister-in-law, Jerry & Judy Leonard of Chatsworth and Ronnie Leonard of Chatsworth; sisters, Joan Leonard Plylar of Destin, Florida and Cindy Leonard of Odenton, Maryland; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Malissa & Billy Steele of Chatsworth, Vivian Duvall of Dalton, and Peggy Manis of California; grandchildren, Seth Ridley, Matt & Lydia McCurdy, Chad & Miranda Ridley, and Krissi McCurdy; great-grandchildren, McKayla, Skylar, and Peyton Ridley, Colt and River McCurdy, and Taylor and Tynlee Ridley; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Leonard will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 10, 2019 in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. George Ross, Pastor Lathem Postell, and Rev. Tommy Crider officiating. He will be laid to rest at Center Valley Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

John Gossett, age 84 formerly of Chatsworth, passed away Friday, January 25th, 2019.

Mr. Gossett was a long time member of Spring Place Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He also served as his church’s minister of music for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Ira Mae Hill Gossett and his sister, Virginia Gossett Kiker.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Gladys Gossett; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Alan and Tina Michelle Gossett and Jeffrey David and Stephanie Diane Gossett; grandchildren, Sarah Kate and Caroline Victoria Gossett; nephews, David and Wayne Kiker.

Mrs. Nancy Arb age 82 of Crandall passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019, surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Maude Phillips a brother John Phillips.

Survivors include her husband or 63 years John Arb. Sons and daughter in laws, John III and Lisa L. Arb of Chatsworth, David and Lisa D. Arb of Dalton, Brian and Carmen Arb of Smyrna, and Doug Arb of Chatsworth. Grandchildren, James Arb, Garrett Arb, and Emily Arb. Foster children Carol Baugher of Daytona Beach, FL and Danny Pelt of Chatsworth. Several nieces, nephews and the Phillips family of St. Louis, MO.

Funeral Services will be Friday 2 pm at the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Rev. Carson Scarbrough officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerour Cemetery in Crandall. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 5 till 9 pm.
