Edd Parson, Jr.

December 17, 1930 – February 03, 2019

Mr. Edd Parson, Jr., loving husband and father of four children, passed away at the age of 88 on February 3, 2019. Edd was born in his grandparents’ home in Chatsworth, GA on December 17, 1930 to Edd and Pearl (Chambers) Parson. On September 5, 1953, he married Edith Patterson. They raised a daughter and three sons.

Edd was a Korean War veteran of the United States Army. While in service, he was stationed in Germany. He cherished time sitting on the porch in the evenings with his family and friends talking over the day and about their lives. He also enjoyed traveling, restoring antique tractors, and airplanes. He enjoyed gospel singings and fellowship time with his friends and loved ones.

Edd was preceded in death by his father, Edd Parson, Sr., and his mother, Pearl (Chambers) Parson; sister, Jonnie Nicholson; nephew, Neil Setter, Jr.; and niece, Dawn Tanksley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Edith Parson; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Roger DeVaughn; sons and daughters-in-law, Eddy and Patty Parson, Ricky and Debby Parson, and Ben and Sharon Parson, all of Crandall; sister, Jeraldine Setter; grandchildren, Kelly and Johnny Ingram, Blake and Ashley Parson, Maria and Carl Taylor, Jamie Parson, Virginia and Alan Atkins, Hannah Parson, and Benjamin Parson; great-grandchildren, Lane Holsomback, Ella Keith, Asa Taylor, Alexis Parson, Landon Atkins, and Ava Atkins; nieces, Sonjua (Jack) Pritchett (son, Logan), Beverly Tanksley, (son, Derek) and Jeanne Carole (Kent) Suddeth (children, Emily and Evan); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Thomas Patterson, Charles and Ruby Patterson, Grady and Rhonda Patterson, Wanda and Bill Webb, Bonnie and Ray Cavett, and Arlene Stevenson; and special friends, Linda Parson and Leon Caylor.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Edd Parson, Jr. will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Bowers and Rev. Ben Parson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairy Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Mr. Robert Gordon “Bob” McLure, Jr. age 82 of Dalton, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Hamilton Medical Center.

Mr. McLure was a graduate of Calhoun High School and Georgia Tech. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun. He enjoyed genealogy, reading and history.

Mr. McLure was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Gordon McLure, Sr. and Lota J. McLure; sister, Nan Elizabeth McLure; father-in-law, Glenn Taylor.

Survivors include wife, Betty Taylor McLure of Dalton; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill & Ashley McLure of Norcross, GA and Scott & Bobbi McLure of Kennesaw, GA; mother-in-law, Ruth Taylor of Crandall; brother-in-law and spouse, James & Carman Taylor of Otto, NC; grandchildren, Robert and Carolyn McLure of Norcross, Alexis, Christopher, and Catherine McLure of Kennesaw; very special cousin and spouse, Sarah & John Thomas of Huntsville, AL; and other cousins.

A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mr. McLure will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chatsworth Heights Cemetery with Rev. Phillip Cannon officiating.

Mr. Rogers was a US Army veteran,  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 167 in Chatsworth.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Rogers; mother, Robbie Lee Rogers; father, Robert E. Rogers, Sr.;

Memorial services will be held Thursday March 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Lamar Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the Amazing Grace Church Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 167 of Chatsworth.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Dottry George Brewer, Jr., age 63, of Crandall, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Hamilton Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Dottry George Sr. and Pauline Brewer and a son Michael Scott Brewer.

Survivors include his wife: Sharon Brewer. children: Anthony Brewer of  Rocky Face, Renee Mathis of Dalton, Joshua Brewer of Varnell, Dottry George Brewer III., Tameka Crider of Crandall and Dwight Crider of Chatsworth, brother:  Mark Brewer of Chatsworth. sisters: Teresa Cudd of Dalton, Paula Franklin of Tunnel Hill, Ann Brewer of Dalton, Robin Fleming of Chatsworth. 17 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Mr. Robert Steelman, Jr. age  89 of Crandall passed away Friday, July 20, 2018. Mr. Steelman was preceded in death by his wife Alice Steelman, a daughter Cheryl Bice a grandaughter Renee Loftis and his parents, P.R. and Lola Steelman.

He is survived by three sons and daughters in law, Lynn and Janice Steelman, Randy and Leona Steelman all of Crandall, Timmy and Darcell Steelman of Chatsworth.

Mr. Sanford was a lifelong resident of Murray County, a WWII US Army Veteran and a lifetime member of the Smyrna Baptist Church.

He enjoyed gardening, raising livestock and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him as “Pa.”

Ernest Q. Fowler, Jr. (“Bug”), age 75, of Chatsworth passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Fowler was a preacher who enjoyed playing guitar and singing gospel music with his family. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Tennga.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Q. Fowler, Sr.; mother, Mary Magdalene Watts Fowler; and brother, James Kenneth Fowler.

Survivors include his wife, Diane I. Langner Fowler, and daughter and son-in-law, Donna & Brian Hutchins of Chatsworth.

Mr. William “Bill” Campbell, Jr. age 56 of Chatsworth, passed away Saturday September 10, 2016.

Mr. Campbell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Dalton. He enjoyed working in his yard, his pets and being outdoors. Bill also liked doing community service work with his church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Campbell.

John Porter, Jr., also known as “Pete,” age 85, of Chatsworth passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at Chatsworth Health Care Center.

Mr. Porter was a member of Mt. Sumach Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Martha Porter; brothers, Dallas, Roy, Everett, and J. C. Porter; sisters, Etheleen Amos, Jesse Craig, Alice Hall, Gertha Head, Gladys Porter, and Cleo Porter; and grandson, Dewayne Grant.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Porter; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Porter of Chatsworth and Randy & Mary Porter of Dalton; daughters and son-in-law, Carol Caldwell of Dalton, Jeanine & Johnny Ward of Chatsworth, and Carrie Yother of Chatsworth; sister, Pauline Morrison of Cohutta; and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

According to his wishes, Mr. Porter will be cremated, and no services will be held.
