Kelven Payne Barnes age 42 of Chatsworth, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019.

Kelven was preceded in death by his father, Millard Franklin Barnes, Sr.; and a brother, Millard Franklin Barnes, Jr.

Survivors include son, Trenton Drake Barnes of Dalton; daughters, Katlyn Marie Barnes and Alexandria Nichole Barnes both of Dalton; mother, Yvonne Barnes of Dalton; brothers, Melvin Wayne Barnes of GA and Harvey Ray Barnes of Dalton; sister, Samantha Yvonne Ashe of Savannah, GA; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Service arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Sandra Lee Hefner age 73 of Dalton, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Hamilton Medical Center.

She was a member of Rock Bridge Community Church.

Mrs. Hefner was preceded in death by her husband, William Taft Hefner; parents, Ruby & Luther Bivins.

Survivors include son, Eric Hefner of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia & Joseph Ybarra of Dalton; grandchildren, Hunter Hefner, Brittany L. Ingle, Ashlee Ingle, Angela Ybarra, and Olivia Ybarra; former son-in-law, Todd Ingle; cousins also survive.

A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Peeples Funeral Home.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to the Peeples Cancer Institute in care of Whitfield Health Care Foundation, P.O. 1168 Dalton, GA 30722.

August 31, 1972 – January 26, 2019

Gregory Ernest Wyke, age 46 of Chapel Hill, formerly of Hayesville, passed away suddenly from a prolonged illness on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at his home. Gregory was born August 31, 1972 in Hiawassee, GA to Ernest Ray Wyke and Nancy Dills Wyke. A graduate of Hayesville high school, Greg obtained a Bachelors degree in Cosmetology and became the owner and operator of “The Salon” in Chapel Hill. Greg accomplished many things in his life, he was a successful business owner, he traveled abroad and ran marathon races. He was well loved and will be greatly missed by his family, and many clients and friends.

Greg was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Andrew and Edna Wyke, and maternal grandparents, Larry and Hazel Dills.

Survivors include his parents, Ernest and Nancy Wyke, sister, Theresa Chamer, several aunts, uncles and cousins, and his beloved dog, Buddy.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Aud Brown and Rev. Robbie Moss officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phillip McCray, Daniel Wyke, Dale Scroggs, Bobby Shook, Glenn Matheson, and Chris Chamer. Honorary pallbearer will be Kevin Brown.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 12-2 pm.

Sherry Freeman Williams

September 21, 1945 – January 20, 2019

Mr. Sherry Freeman Williams, age 73, of Dalton passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Hamilton Medical Center.

Sherry was a member of Crosspointe Christian Centre in Dalton.  He loved singing, traveling, hunting, collecting antiques, working with show horses, and spending time with family and friends.

He was also an entrepreneur who enjoyed a career of 40-plus years in the textile industry.

Sherry was preceded in death by his father, W L Williams; mother, Jewell Williams; brothers, Tommy Williams, Don Williams, and Bill Williams; and sister, Barbara Holcomb.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Sandra Williams of Dalton; sons and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Talli Williams of Dalton and Sandon Carson of Adairsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheri Williams of Atlanta, Whitney and Blake Miller of Marietta, Nakia and Shane Rice of Sugar Valley, and Genna Carson of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Justin Hooks, Dean Rice, Callie Rice, and Eli Carson; and several extended family members.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Sherry Freeman Williams will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Crosspointe Christian Centre in Dalton with Pastor Stan Lester and Pastor Mike Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Valerie Lynn Rymer, 41 of Crandall departed this life unexpectedly on December 11, 2018, at her home. Valerie was born on September 24, 1977, in Ellijay, Georgia to Gary and Connie Reed both of Ellijay, Georgia.
She is survived by her Spouse: Matthew Aaron Rymer
Children: Caitlin and Vincent Barnett, Chase Aaron Rymer and Rylie Lynn Rymer.
Grand-Children: Soren Gray Barnett and Cayde Auron Barnett

Mrs. Geneva Lance, age 89, of Chatsworth, passed away on November 19, 2018, at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her spouse Robert Cecil (Pete) Lance.  Parents Sid and Pearl (Baggett) Baynes, children Terry and Eddie King, a Great Granddaughter Kylie Cochran. Sisters Gussie Forrest, Mae Forrest, Minnie Ridley, and Helen Robinson. Brothers, J.A. (Buck ) Baynes and Sam Baynes.

Survivors include her children and spouse, Linda King, Darlene King, Denise and Keith Flood all of Chatsworth. Eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Sisters, Nancy Green and Lorene Langham, and a brother Willie Baynes all of Chatsworth. Sisters in law, Oslee Kendrick and Eloise Lance both of Chatsworth. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday 4 pm at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Kilgore and David Robinson officiating.  Interment will follow in the New Hope-Kilgore Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday 4 till 9 pm

Larry David (Red) Swanson

OCTOBER 31, 1944 ~ NOVEMBER 7, 2018 (AGE 74)

Mr. Larry David ( Red ) Swanson age 74 of Chatsworth passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018.

Mr. Swanson was a 1964 graduate of Murray County High School, served in the United States Navy, Navy Reserve and the National Guard for 16 years. Served as a Peace Officier with Murray County Sheriffs Office for 18 years and was the first officer to teach the DARE program and a Corrections Officer with the State of Georgia in the Mobile Construction Unit for 10 years. Larry was a member of Dalton American Legion Post 112 where he was the Junior Vice President and Sergent at Arms. Mr. Swanson was a member of the 40/8 and elite group of men and women the that were veterans.  He also was a member of The Murray County Veterans Memorial Committee and one of the founding fathers that built the Murray County Veterans Park.

He was preceded in death by his Grandmother Flossie Swanson, mother Thelma Swanson Blackburn. sister, Becky Delarosa, brother and sisters in law C. T. (Wilma) Swanson and Frances Swanson.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Betty Swanson, Children Kristie Swanson and Kelly Swanson all of Chatsworth. Brother J. E. Swanson of Chatsworth. Grandchildren Diana Young of Blue Ridge, Julia Swanson of Opelika, AL Amy Swanson and Chloe Swanson both of Hixson, TN.  Great Grand Daughter Mckinnley Young of Blue Ridge several Nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Visitation will be Saturday 6 till 9 pm at Shawn Chapman Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers Please make donations to The Murray County Veterans Memorial Fund, 120 East Cherokee Street, Chatsworth, GA 30705.
