Mary Frances Kendrick, age 70, of Chatsworth passed away Monday, December 23, 2019, at her residence.

She is preceded by her husband: Eugene Kendrick, parents: John and Minnie Lou Ridley, brother: Clifford, Jim, and Grover Ridley, sister: Irene Massingil, Imogene Ball, Agnes Hackler, and Maggie Dempsey.

Mrs. Kendrick is survived by her son: Ricky Kendrick of Chatsworth, daughter, and son in law:  Janelle and Jeremiah Hewitt of Dalton, grandchildren, and spouses: Letisha and Jackie Pack of Cohutta, Josh and Jessica Baker of Dunlap, TN, and Tyler Kendrick of Kingsland, brother: Jess Ridley of Dalton, six great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kendrick will be 2 PM, Saturday, December 28, 2019, in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Green officiating. Donnie Long: Obituary

Donnie Long, age 68, of Dalton, Passed away December 23, 2019, at Hamilton Medical Center.

Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents: Willis and Frances Long.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Belinda Long, daughter and son in law: Tonya and Jason Silvius of Dalton, grandchildren:  Katie and Jaden Silvius. Several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and special friend Clyde Teasley also survive.

Funeral service for Mr. Long will be Saturday, December 28, 2019, at 3:30 PM in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Rev. James Watts officiating. Interment will be in the Tilton Baptist Church Cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the funeral hour.

Lillard Stringer: Obituary

Brother Lillard Stringer, age 84 of Tunnel Hill, departed this life Saturday, December 28th 2019 at his home.

His favorite things were preaching, singing, playing his guitar, and loving and worshipping God. He was a preacher of the Gospel for 56 years. He was the pastor of North Whitfield Missionary Baptist Church for 36 years. He was also pastor at Lindsey Memorial, Pine Hill and Rays Chapel. He was a member of the Faith Travelers and Southern Gospelaires.

He was preceded by his parents, Walter and Alta Stringer; brother, Billy Stringer; sister Janice Maddux; son, Dale Stringer; Best friend and Brother in Christ, Clyde Hyatt.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margie Stringer; sons Edwin and Michelle Stringer and Mac Stringer; daughters, Kathy and Jimmy Ballew and April and Jody Leslie; brother, Jimmy Stringer; Brother-in-Law, Earl Maddux; grandsons, Todd Poteet, Douglas Whitener, Shane Stringer, Harley Stringer, Blake Stringer, Kyle Stringer, Alex Stringer, Marvin McCormick, Nolan Poteet; granddaughters, Summer Plowman, Whitney Mills, Tori Johnson, Payton Poteet; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; long time school friend, Joe Worley,

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Brother Stringer will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, December 31st 2019 from North Whitfield Missionary Baptist Church with J.T. Sanders, Bill O’Neal, Heath Morton and Todd Poteet officiating. Burial will be in Gordy Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at North Whitfield Missionary Baptist Church from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, December 30th 2019 and 9:00 am until 1:00 pm Tuesday, December 31st 2019.

Special thanks to his granddaughter, Whitney Mills for her love and care and Eddie and Michelle Stringer for taking care of daddy.

Jerry J. Beeman: Obituary

Jerry J. Beeman, age 87 of Chatsworth, passed away Wednesday, December 25th 2019 in Hamilton Medical Center.

Jerry Joe Beeman, son of Marion George (Jack) and Dorothy Lucille Anderson Beeman, was born at Mercy Hospital in Elwood, Indiana. He is survived by his sister, Dianne (Beeman)Hines, Gaston, In., niece Sharon Hines, Gaston, In, nephew Jon Hines (wife Valerie), Yorktown, In; grand-nephew Brett Ellison; grand-nieces Heather, Rachel, Tessa Hines; Brother-in-law Robert J. Hines passed in 2018, niece Shirley Hines passed in 2009. Other survivors are Bob Anderson, cherished neighbor, Chatsworth, Ga and dear family/friends Randy and Brenda Creel and their children Brian, Kim, Kelly, Kristi and grandchildren, Chatsworth, Ga.

Jerry had ushered and was a faithful member of Chatsworth First United Methodists Church. He loved serving others as a “grandpa” to the young daughter of the owners of an Asian Restaurant, playing Santa, reading to children or as a helper filling bags with groceries for the hungry.

Jerry’s mother was a high school business teacher and the family moved frequently during the Depression to where she could find work. Jerry attended his first three years of school in Rockfield, IN. and his next year in Spencerville, In. He graduated from Gaston High School in Gaston, IN with the class of 1950. He then attended Ball State College (now Ball State University) in Muncie, IN where he was in a service fraternity, manager with the baseball team and a member of ROTC…After graduation he entered the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant stationed out of a Strategic Air Command in Texas.

During his civilian life he worked in the office of a meat packing company, taught school, was supervisor/manager for Mitchell Maintenance. He retired from Food Center in Chatsworth. Jerry was also “Man of the Year” in Murray County.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jerry Beeman will be 2:00 pm Sunday, December 29th 2019 from Chatsworth First United Methodist Church with Rev. Graham Arp officiating. Burial will be in Center Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Sunday, December 29th 2019 at Chatsworth First United Methodist Church.

Nancy Ruth Keener Stafford went to be with her Lord Sunday, December 22, 2019.  She is the daughter of Beatrice and Rose Keener.  Mrs. Stafford was greatly loved by all of her family.  We take great comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her husband, Willie Stafford, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son David E. Stafford,  son and daughter in law: Darran and Cathy Stafford, daughter: Diana K. Stafford Callihan and her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly:  Joshua (Emma) Lyles, Samantha (Hunter) Kivstad, Erin and Sarah Callihan and David A. Stafford. Mr. B.W. Ridley, age 81 passed away on December 19, 2019, at Hamilton Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Services for Mr. Ridley will be 11 AM Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at Free Hope Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Williams and Bro. David Eaton officiating. Interment will be in Murray Memorial Gardens.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Simon and Mary Sluder, brothers: Clinton Sluder and Bill Sludert and one sister and brother in law: Ailene and James Peek, niece: Lisa Sluder Patterson.

Mrs. Lucy Pullen Mantooth went to be with the Lord Monday, December 23, 2019 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She went on to join some of her friends and relatives who have preceded her.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Melvin and Vallie Pullen; brothers, Eugene, Floyd and Thomas Pullen; sisters, Rachel Stafford, Lorene Dunn and Magdalene Cook; sisters-in-law, Hazel Pullen and Bessie Pullen; brothers-in-law, Ralph Stafford and Barney Gallman.

Surviving loved ones include husband, Claude Robert Mantooth of Crandall; daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Brian Smith of Crandall; granddaughters, Amy and Whitney Smith; brothers and sister-in-law, Howard Pullen of Chatsworth, James and Debbie Pullen of Crandall; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lou Gallman of Chatsworth, Minnie Ruth and Billy Ballew of Chatsworth, Ann and Jerry Flood of Chatsworth; brother-in-law, Charles Mantooth; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Mantooth will be held Friday, December 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Webb officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Church Cemetery.

Mr. Donald “Donnie” Sturgill, age 62, of Pikeville, TN, and formerly of Chatsworth passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019 at his residence.

He enjoyed farming, taking care of animals, and playing the guitar.

Donnie was preceded in death by his father, Venus Olan Sturgill; mother, Wilma Jean Stiles Sturgill; brother, Ronnie Sturgill; and sisters, Connie Carter and Linda Sturgill.

Survivors include his son, Dee Sturgill of Spring City, TN; daughters and sons-in-law, Heather Johnson of Dalton, Holly Jordan of Chatsworth, and Bridget and Teran VanMeter of Chatsworth; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jeannine Sturgill of Chatsworth; sisters, Karen Malone of Chatsworth and Amy Torrence of Dalton; grandchildren, Devyn Sturgill, Dylan Sturgill, Lindsey Sluder, Landon Jordan, Preston VanMeter, Emily Sanford, and Ava VanMeter; great-grandchild, Stella Jane Sturgill; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sturgill will be cremated and a memorial service will be held a later date.

Mr. James “Smiley” Bryant age 69 of Chatsworth passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Winston and Mildred Bryant and a nephew Christopher Corbin.

He is survived by his children and spouse Millie and Adam Houston, Shawn Wells all of Cleveland. Sisters, Linda Deverellof Crandall, Brenda Brock of Chatsworth and Patricia Bigge of AZ. One brother, Gene Bryant of Crandall. Several grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Marsha Ann Ballew age 69 of Chatsworth, finally succumbed Thursday, December 12, 2019 at AdventHealth Gordon due to various illnesses as a result of her stroke in 2017.

She was a member of the Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, sewing and antiquing.

Mrs. Ballew was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Reece Elliott and Ethel Stafford Elliott; brothers, Bobby and Jimmy Elliott; sister, Sue Kile.

Survivors include husband, Ernest “Ernie” Ballew of Chatsworth; daughters and sons-in-law, Christina & Bruce Watanabe of Newport, OR, Stephanie & Gus Perez of Chatsworth and Aimee Satterfield of Chatsworth; brother and sister-in-law, Larry Teddy and Charlotte Elliott of Beaverdale, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Willard and Leslie Ballew of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Erin, Kaiya and Aki Watanabe and Sevilla Perez; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ballew will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tom Clark officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 20th from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Peeples Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary Clay Daves age 88 of Chatsworth, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 at Chatsworth Health Care.

She was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Ellijay; she loved her family and enjoyed cooking, sewing, camping and fishing.

Mrs. Daves was preceded in death by her husband Dallas Cline Daves; parents, Henry and Lillie Jones; son-in-law, Harold R. Miles; several siblings.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Glen & Wanda Daves of Talking Rock, Rathel & Ronda Daves of Dalton, and Charlie & Karen Daves of Chatsworth; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Miles, Josephine Cook, Sherry & Johnny Cochran, and Clara Bartley –all of Chatsworth, Sandra & Roger Hewitt of Dawnville and Sarah & Brian Burke of Dalton; 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and numerous other extended family.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Daves will be held Monday, December 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the Flat Creek Baptist Church in Ellijay with Rev. Wallace Parks and Rev. Paul Richards officiating. Interment will follow in the Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Peeples Funeral Home.
