Mr. Robert A. “Bob” Jones age 80 of Cisco, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019.

Bob enjoyed being outdoors, where he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Bob was an honorable member of the Sumach Masonic Lodge # 55, where he served as Past Master in 1983.  He was a faithful member of Cisco Baptist Church for over 60 years. Bob lived all his life in the Cohutta Wilderness.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents Casey Robert Jones and Mollie Pellom Jones; grandparents, Kate and George Pellom and Jake and Elmira Jones; brother, Kenneth P. Jones.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Diane & Jeff Wolfly of Charleston, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Randy & Teresa Jones of Cleveland, TN; special friend, Jean Peden Jones of Crandall; brothers and sister-in-law, Jakie Jones of Cisco, and Charles & Brenda Jones of Cisco; sisters and brother-in-law, Geneva Sue Jones of Carrollton, GA, Barbara & Russell Flatters of Tennga and Syble Jones of Rome, GA; sister-in-law, Grace Stinnett Jones Stiles; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Jones will be held Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Bowers and Rev. Stephen Smith officiating. Masonic Rites will follow the service in the chapel. Interment will be held in the Fairy Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Zeke and Loucindy Brown; Robert J. Barton, and Louise Greeson.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Brown; parents, Mack and Sandy Brown; children, Mack, Charlie, Zoey, and Emily Brown and Penny Cantrell; brother, David Brown; sisters, Sharon McJunkin, Rita Smith, and Mary Brown.

Services to celebrate the life of Ezekial Brown will be 11:00 am Thursday, May 16th 2019 from the Chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Tunnel Hill with Heath Morton and Rev. J.T. Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Gordy Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 15th 2019.

Mrs. Helen Eunave Newton, 88 of Chatsworth passed away Friday, May, 24, 2019 at Parkside in Ellijay.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Beulah Coram; daughter-in-law, Diane Reed; brother, Melvin Coram; sister, Inez Medlin.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Ray Reed of Chatsworth, Gary and Connie Reed of Ellijay; daughters, Peggy Evans of Chatsworth, Joyce and Steven Priest of Chatsworth;12 grandkids; 30 great-grandkids, 25 great great-grandkids; extended family also survives.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Helen Eunave Newton will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Peeples Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment will follow in Holly Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Earl West: Obituary

Earl West was born on February 19, 1944 and won his battle over cancer on July 19, 2019.

Earl was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kara West; father and mother, Stanton and Annie Lou Keener-West; and brother, Arvil West.

Earl is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ellen Fraker West. Also surviving are two sons, LaDon West and his wife, Treasa, and Chris West and his wife, Daphne. Grandchildren are LaRissa and Anthony Landowski, Kade West, Kason West, Colby Ramsey, Caleb Ramsey, Caden Ramsey, and an adopted granddaughter, Stephannie and Joel Corn. Great-grandchildren are Analissa and Asher Landowski. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Haden and Mildred West; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachel and Larry Warren, Dorothy Lawless, Marie Grant, Doris and Wayne Wade, and Deloris Holcombe; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind two beloved pets, Rosie & Scrappy.

Earl loved his family and is lovingly remembered as the one who was called no matter the time for whatever the need was. He loved his church family at Welcome Hill Baptist and serving dinner there on Wednesday nights. Earl was an avid hunter and fisherman – a trait that he passed on to his boys, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family cannot remember a time that he didn’t grow a garden and raise chickens, of which he supplied the whole family with the fruits thereof. Not only did he supply them with physical fruits; he led by example in serving God during all walks of life – leading them to Him.

The family wants to extend a special Thank You to Dr. Conry, Dr. Dobelbower, Terri Sinquefield, and the entire staff at UAB Acton Road Radiation & Oncology Center.  You have loved our entire family through many dark times, and we are forever grateful.

Funeral services for Earl West will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 22, 2019 in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Dr. Zach Sizemore and Rev. Travis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Dawnville Methodist Cemetery. Mr. West will be escorted to the cemetery by the Patriot Guard Riders of Georgia, and military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 167 of Chatsworth.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

Pallbearers will be nephews: Harold West, Arvil West, Michael Lawless, Anthony Lawless, Mitch Fraker, and Gary Grant.

Betty Belle Hodge, age 78, of Chatsworth passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Hamilton Medical Center.

Betty was a member of City View Church of God. She loved her church and her kids and grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hodge; son, Neil Hodge; son-in-law, Dwayne Ratliff; granddaughter, Katrina White; parents, Sherman and Eleanor Kuhn; and siblings.

Mrs. Hodge will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 4:00 pm in Daysville Cemetery in Rockwood, TN.

James “Jim” Hedges

APRIL 28, 1936 ~ MAY 2, 2019

James “Jim” Hedges, 83, of Chatsworth, passed away on Thursday, May 2nd 2019, at Murray Medical Center (AdventHealth) under hospice care given by Homespun Hospice in Murray County, Georgia. Jim was surrounded by his family after a short battle with multiple health issues.

Jim will be cremated and no services will be held per his request. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.

Jim was born in Maple Hill, Kansas to John and Thelma Hedges on April 28, 1936. He graduated from Denison High School 1954, (16 in the graduation class) in Denison, Kansas where he was an athlete playing Basketball and Baseball winning State various years. Jim also enrolled in Kansas State in the certificate program earning a certificate in Artificial Insemination. Jim’s dad was the Mayor of Denison and had the only store in town. As a child, Jim rescued stray dogs. The stray dogs would be hooked to his wagon that Jim drove around town. He had a 16 dog wagon. Jim enjoyed rodeo and playing Cowboy Music. Jim had two favorite horses Jigger and Spanky. Jim started his rodeo career in California roping goats. He went on to saddle broncs, calf roping and some team roping on both sides. Jim moved back to Kansas from California with his horse in the back of the pickup truck; his belongings tucked around the horse and his family inside the pickup truck while pulling a small camper trailer behind the truck.

Jim married Jewel Hedges November 16, 1966 in Kansas City, Kansas. While living in McLouth, Kansas Jim was foreman of Black Watch Ranch were he was the overseer of 900 head of Black Angus Cattle. While in Kansas he and his band, “Jim Hedges and the Country Times” were booked six months in advance. Jim worked at Murray County Hospital for several years. He resigned from the hospital and was a welder by trade. Jim retired from MidSouth Metals.

Jim, his wife and family moved to Georgia to get closer to Nashville. Jim won the “Kentucky Fried Chicken Songwriter’s Contest” while living in Georgia. After winning the contest, he did not pursue music as hard as he was uncomfortable signing autographs.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jewel Hedges, a special granddaughter, Elizabeth “Ashley” Hedges and his sister Peggy McCrory. His special pets are waiting for him at Rainbow Bridge are Jigger (Sorrel Horse), Sissy (Rottweiler) and Hooch (Mixed Terrier.) Jim also had a Canadian goose that flew at his shoulder as he walked to the barn to feed the horses. Goosey would also fly back to the house ahead of Jim and then slow back to his shoulder.

Jim is survived by his sons, daughter-in-law and daughters James “Jimmy” Lee Hedges and Debbie Hedges (Mesa, Arizona), Richard and Liberty Hedges (Wichita, Kansas), Curtis Hedges (Signal Mountain, Tennessee), Dr. Beverly Hedges, Becky Hedges and Connie Hedges all of Chatsworth. Sister, Marie Gunther, brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Sheila Hedges. Grandchildren are Cassie Hedges (Mesa, Arizona), Kendra Smith (Baldwin, Kansas) Rene Hicks, Curtis Hedges, Jr. (Cleveland, Tennessee), Adrian and Tina Fernandes (Wichita, Kansas.) Special childhood friend Alfred Twombly. Jim is also survived by Priscilla Hedges.

The family of Jim wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Murray Medical Center which is now known as AdventHealth, the WONDERFUL physician Dr. Counsell, the Nursing Staff and Vanessa. The family would also like to thank First Baptist Church of Chatsworth (for building the ramp) and would also like to thank Homespun Hospice for being there for both parents. The family would also like to thank Keith Davis with Homespun Hospice for his continued support during the last two and a half months.

He was preceded in death by his son Daniel Charles Owen Jr. (Dan Charlie), Parents Daniel Clarence and Evelyn (Crow) Owen, Grandchildren Shayna and Alysha Edwards, Claire Owen, brothers Gene and Felton Owen and sisters Annie Hester and Loretta Pullen.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Barbara Jean (Head) Owen. Children and spouses Carol and Randy Edwards of Calhoun, Nathan and Renee Owen of Summerville. Grandchildren Jeremy, Jonathan, and Kaylee Owen, Alyssa and Tyler Dukes, Scott, Kevin, Bryanna, and Tericka Edwards, and Emerald Bentley. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
