Connie Verlene Goss, age 64, of Chatsworth passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at her home surrounded by family.

Connie was a member of Blue Ridge Primitive Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, fishing, embroidery, and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence & Edith Jones.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Coolidge Goss, Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher & Michelle Betterton of Chatsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Amy Elam & Brandon Newsome of Chatsworth; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex & Sherry Jones of Crandall, Walter & Karen Jones of Chatsworth, and Glenn Jones of Chatsworth; sister and brother-in-law, China & Shane “Booger” Williams of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Jessica and Dylan Wright, Isaiah and Kailyn Beloin, Lucas Betterton, Matthew Weaver, and Alonso and Amanda Freeman; great-granddaughter, Emma Claire Freeman; uncle, Talmadge Green of Crandall; uncle and aunt, Doyal & Ruth Jones of Chatsworth; aunts, Nina Wagnon of Chatsworth and Viola Green of Chatsworth; special friend, Faye Bowers Hawkins; and several dear extended family members.

Funeral services for Mrs. Goss will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Blue Ridge Primitive Baptist Church in Chatsworth with Elders Kelly Smith, Kyle Green, and Eddy Flick officiating. Interment will follow in Harrison Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Peeples Funeral Home on Saturday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

Mary Frances Peacock Campbell, resident of Chatsworth, GA, passed away on June 2, 2018

at home at the age of 80 years.

Frances was born on May 24, 1938, to John and Ila Peacock. She was raised in Moultrie, GA. She received a BA in Religion from Shorter College and a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Berry College. She taught PreK, Kindergarten and First Grade in Murray County schools for over 25 years. Before teaching, she served as pastor’s secretary and youth minister for First Baptist Church of Rome, GA and church secretary for First Baptist Church of Chatsworth, GA. Frances was involved in church all her life and was last a member of Sumach Presbyterian Church in Chatsworth, GA. Frances had a beautiful voice and enjoyed music all her life. She sang with college groups, community chorus, and church choirs. She loved creative writing and wrote, stories, poems, and songs.

Her living family includes husband, Charles Campbell, daughter Connie Campbell of Chatsworth, GA. Son and daughter in law, Corey and Becky Rapier Campbell, of Brentwood, CA. Sister Barbara Peacock Waits, of Thomasville, GA.  Grandchildren Seth and Makenzie Campbell of Rockmart, GA and Katelyn Campbell Dennison and husband Cody, and great-granddaughter Ava Dennison of Ringgold, GA, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on at Shawn Chapman Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. with a memorial service following at 6:00 p.m.

Evelyn L. Patterson age 75 of Chatsworth passed away Monday, May 21, 2018, at the Erlanger Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Patterson, and son Dean “Dino” Lawson.

Survivors include her children and spouse, Gloria and Tim Weaver of Chatsworth, Tim Patterson, Shane Patterson both of Chatsworth and Wolf Patterson of Ellijay.

Grandchildren and spouse, Josh Weaver, Heather and Rusty Ramsey, and Cameron Lawson. Great grandchildren, Noah West, Isaiah West, and Chloe Ramsey.

Brothers, Ronnie Henderson of Chatsworth, Gene Henderson, and Wayne Henderson both of Duff, TN, and Joey Henderson of Chatsworth. Sisters, Katherine Waldrop of Sidney OH, Virgie Coker of Crandall and Betty Claxton of Chatsworth. Several Nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delies and Hazel Bearden, sisters, Wilma Cason, and Julie Neal, brothers, Ed, William, and Richard Bearden.

Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Sharon Bearden. Daughter and son in law, Samantha and Eric Wolf of Roswell, and his son Jake Bearden of Dalton. Jerry Murl Wills: Obituary

Jerry Murl Wills, age 76 of Cohutta, passed away at his home Friday, April 13, 2018.

Mr. Wills served in the U.S. Navy from the age of 17 beginning in 1959 to 1970. He served as a Signalman Rating on Minesweepers particularly the U.S.S. RIVAL and the U.S.S. ABILITY during the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962.  Three years of shore duty as a Shore Patrolman in Meridian, Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement. Ending with a year’s service off the Coast of Vietnam in the attack Ammo Ship, U.S.S. CHARA, earning the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Timothy Wills and sister, Carolyn S. Rearden.

He is survived by his sons, Tony Lee Wills and Bobby Henderson Wills; brother, Donald Eugene Wills; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Jerry Murl Wills will be 6 pm Wednesday, April 18th 2018 from the chapel of Jones Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Lewis Edward “Buddy” Hicks, age 76 of Tunnel Hill, passed away Monday, March 12th 2018 in Ridgewood Manor.

Buddy enjoyed showing horses. In 1972, he and his special horse, Caper, won the World Championship Pleasure Racking Horse title. He loved being a Papaw. Not a weekend went by that his home was not filled with the laughter of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of all, his love for God and singing His praises left a legacy that will live on. Sing on Papaw. We love you and will see you again someday.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Cochran Seritt; father, Lewis E. Hicks, Sr.; brothers, J.M. and Jimmy Hicks; sister, Mary Land; and brother-in-law, David Coker.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Holmes Hicks; children, Brian and Matt Hicks, Shari and Eddie Trammell; and Nikki Robinson; grandchildren, Misti Sanders, Kasey Sissom, Christina Howell, Jarren Trammell, Randall Trammell, Morgan and Alex Robinson; great-grandchildren, Treniti, Jacob and Maddison Sanders; Georgia Caroline and Lincoln Trammell, Wyatt and Shiloh Sissom; and Hulen Howell; sister, Kaye Coker; brother Roger Hicks; loving step-father Jack Seritt; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, March 14th 2018 from Maple Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Robertson, Rev. Lillard Stringer and Rev. J.T. Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
