UPDATE: Rep. Tom Graves’ son critically injured in bike accident Sunday

Representative Tom Graves (R-GA-14) said in a statement released on his Facebook page, that his son suffered severe head trauma but is responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital. John Graves was critically injured while competing with the Georgia Tech bicycling team in the Calhoun Road Race and Downtown Criterium on Sunday. A lifeflight helicopter landed near the CVS on Wall Street to fly him out.

“Thank you for the outpouring of support and prayers these last few days. Sunday, John suffered severe head trauma and had multiple spots of bleeding on his brain. Thanks to his dedicated medical team, he’s been responding extremely well to treatment and care.

John’s strength is returning and he’s showing improved signs of responsiveness and beginning to ask questions. We are thankful for these positive developments as John continues with his recovery. Thank you for all of the well wishes and prayers. They are so appreciated.”

John Graves, son of Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) was critically injured during a race through downtown Calhoun on Sunday. John Graves is a member of Georgia Tech’s cycling team and was participating in the Calhoun Road Race and Downtown Criterium this weekend.

Rep. Tom Graves said his son, John, was critically injured Sunday in Calhoun.

Tom Graves (R-GA-14) issued the following statement:

“Yesterday morning our son, John, a member of Georgia Tech’s cycling team, was critically injured during the Calhoun Downtown Criterium and airlifted to a trauma unit. He remains in intensive care and is being cared for by a top-notch team of doctors and medical professionals. He’s a strong boy and is showing signs of responsiveness. We appreciate the outpouring of support and continued prayers as John begins his recovery.”

Georgia Tech declined to comment “out of respect for the family.”

Graves announced his retirement from Congress in 2019, opening Georgia’s 14-district for the 2020 election.
