A dominating performance by Tyson Greenwade carried Dalton past North Murray 49-27 in the first ever matchup between the two schools. Greenwade finished the game with 371 yards on 24 carries and 6 touchdowns.

The high-profile matchup drew many to Harmon Field Friday night including Mother Nature. Heavy rain and lightning delayed the 7:30 start until 8:00.

Dalton and Greenwade got out of the gate early. A 48-yard touchdown run by Greenwade gave the Catamounts a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the evening. Dalton held a 7-0 lead in the second quarter when North Murray looked to tie it up. Seth Griffin muscled his way into the endzone from 6-yards out. A failed 2-point conversion left the score at 7-6 in favor of the Catamounts.

Luke Blanchard returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown putting Dalton up 14-6 midway through the second quarter. Dalton would add another score just a few minutes later. Greenwade racked up big chunks of yardage leading the Catamounts inside the 5-yard line. Greenwade’s second TD of the night was a 2-yard rush that put Dalton up 21-6 with 3:33 left in the half.

North Murray wasted no time putting together a scoring drive of their own. Griffin connected with Judson Petty from 4-yards out bringing the Mountaineers back to within one score at 21-13. With 2:33 remaining before halftime was more than enough time for Greenwade to add another touchdown. His third of the night was a 2-yard scamper putting the Catamounts up comfortably at the half 28-13.

The second half very much resembled the first half.

Greenwade would add two more rushing touchdowns on runs of 50-yards and 1-yard to close out the scoring in the third. The Catamounts led 42-13 going into the final quarter.

Tyson Greenwade carries the ball in the 3rd quarter.

The Mountaineers continued to fight in the final quarter. Seth Griffin scored on a 4-yard rushing touchdown, his second of the night. A few minutes later Griffin connected with Petty for another touchdown, this one from 37-yards out.

Dalton held a 42-27 lead late in the game. Tyson Greenwade added one more before time expired. A short touchdown run from just a few yards out giving the Catamounts a 49-27 victory.

North Murray moves to 0-1 and will host Pickens for their home opener next Friday. Dalton moves to 1-0 and will have a bye week next week.
