Schools, private businesses offer aid during COVID-19 shutdown
Business, News March 15, 2020CALHOUN, Ga.–Schools and private businesses in Gordon County offer aid to those most impacted by the COVID-19 shutdown. Gordon County and Calhoun City schools, along with Frosty Kreme, want to make sure no child goes hungry. North Georgia Home Sitters, a company providing home care to seniors, is offering free errand running for seniors during this time.

Gordon County Schools announced this schedule to help children stay fed during the COVID-19 closure.

So far, there are only two cases of the novel COVID-19 virus in Gordon County, but out of an “abundance of caution,” Kimberly Fraker, Superintendent of Gordon County

Calhoun City Schools released the above schedule to ensure students are fed during the COVID-19 closing.
Schools jointly announced with Michelle Taylor, Superintendent of Calhoun City Schools, on Friday the school would be closed from Monday until March 27. Schools in Pickens County and Murray County have also closed. Whitfield County, Dalton Public, and Murray County have opted to remain open.
Both schools systems have worked to make sure students have access to breakfast and lunch through the schools on this unplanned break.
Both systems announced a meal delivery schedule that will bring lunch, plus the breakfast for the following day.

Local business, Frosty Kreme, has offered to feed students in Gordon County for free during the school closure.
The Frosty Kreme, a small walk-up restaurant in Calhoun, also announced they are chipping in to help make sure no child goes hungry. They posted to following announcement on their Facebook page:
“Due to the county and city schools being closed.
We realize that some students might rely on lunch.
While schools are closed
All students K-12
Are welcome to come to the Frosty Kreme between 11 AM and 1 PM and either get a grilled cheese, chips and drink
or a hotdog chips and drink
FREE OF CHARGE!”
For those with no way to get to Frosty Kreme, they also posted they had volunteers who could take
