Georgia United Foundation Provides $40K Playground to Eton Elementary

The Murray County school was named a 2019 School Crashers recipient and received outdoor improvements

Chatsworth, GA (August 17, 2019) – Eton Elementary students will start the school year enjoying a new playground provided by the 2019 Georgia United Foundation School Crashers® program.  On August 17, Georgia United team members and community volunteers provided fresh mulch to the school grounds and installed new playground equipment complete with slides, climbing activities and adaptive swings while updating additional equipment with fresh paint. In addition, new playground games including hopscotch were hand painted by volunteers.

Nominating Principal, Elizabeth Selvage, stated, “Our old playground was worn down and looked tired. Now our students have a new play space they can take pride in and enjoy, while interacting with their classmates. This is a really good start to the school year.”

Eton Elementary, located at 829 GA 286-A, in Chatsworth, GA, was selected out of 200 nominations to receive a 2019 School Crashers grant. Each year Georgia United Foundation offers schools the opportunity to nominate a school in Georgia for improvement grants on their website at gucufoundation.org/schoolcrashers.   The goal of School Crashers program is to unite the community, sponsors and donor partners through volunteerism to provide school systems with new learning and playground spaces, so the students feel inspired to learn and play. Over the last five years, School Crashers has provided over $1 million in improvements for 33 schools.

“Eton Elementary received a $40 thousand playground makeover due to a School Crashers grant, in-kind donations from our donor partners and efforts of nearly 80 volunteers,” stated Georgia United Credit Union’s Business Development Officer, Harrison Stafford. “We love hosting this program and working with donors and sponsors who are also passionate about improving our community.”

Georgia United Foundation would like to thank Murray County Schools for removing the old playground equipment, GameTime for providing the new playground equipment, Home Depot for providing mulch and paint and the many volunteers who helped complete this project.  In addition, the credit union extends its gratitude to the Dalton DailyCitizen.news for sharing the School Crashers story.
