Mrs. Rosella Carroll Payne age 88 of Chatsworth, passed away Saturday March 11, 2017 at Murray Medical Center.

After 46 years of marriage she courageously lived alone in a house with aides for doors, telephones, email, and captioned TV. Until her last day on earth she cared for the house her husband helped build and cared for and watched over her adult children as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Though having only a 4^th grade education, she read the entire Bible and was so proficient at lip reading, some people never realized she was deaf. She was a lifelong faithful member of Dewberry Baptist Church.

Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Minnie Carroll; brothers, Will, Floyd, Frank, and Johnny Carroll; sisters, Lillie Anderson, Lizzie Osborne, Julia Manis, Ruth Adair, and Polly Burnette; beloved husband, Albert Payne; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Sandi Payne; special family friend, John VanNostrand.

Survivors include, daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Mark Bowen of Chatsworth; son, Ray Payne of Birmingham, AL; daughter-in-law, Mary Payne of Eton; sisters-in-law, Martha Baxter and Anne Payne; grandchildren and spouses, Gina and Dewayne Cronan , Staci and Wade Ruse, Laura Beth and Zach Crow, Andrew and Charity Bowen and Jacob and Katie Bowen; great-grandchildren, Dylan Cronan, Caleb, Tyler, Aaron, and Emily Smith, Olivia, Isaiah, and Arianna Bowen, Zander Bowen, Kaitlyn and Carter Crow; nieces; nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Payne will be held Wednesday March 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Bowen, Rev. Andrew Bowen, Rev. Duane Smith and Rev. Brandon Herndon officiating. Interment will follow in the Dewberry Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
