Obituaries

Ms. Vadah Butler Kendrick, 90, passed away on Sunday May 22, 2016, at Chatsworth Healthcare Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Maude Butler, great-grandson, Robert Loughridge, and nine brothers and sisters.

Vadah grew up on the family farm in Ramhurst, had fond memories of living in the Murray County jail when her father was sheriff, and was captain of her high school basketball team. She was a well-known business woman in the area, helping to start two companies, Keropi Carpets and Kendrick Carpets.

In her earlier years she was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Ramhurst, and Chatsworth First Baptist in later years. She supported charities working with third world children, Native American children, and military veterans. As a volunteer with the taxpayer association, she helped many people of lesser means with income and property taxes, often going to their homes to do so as well as advocating on their behalf.

Vadah traveled to over 40 states and 20 countries, including three trips to Europe and one to Asia. Her favorite destination was the American west, where on numerous trips she saw most of the national parks. She was an avid reader of Zane Grey and Louis L’amour western novels, and had an impressive collection of authentic Navaho turquoise jewelry.

In her golden years, Vadah enjoyed riding through the mountains in her red jeep, drinking coffee with friends at the Creme Hut, and doting on her great-grandchildren.

Vadah is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Tommy & Mary Nathan Kendrick, Bruce & Marcia Kendrick, Eric Kendrick, Steve Kendrick; three grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa & Steve Loughridge, Alan & Kelli Kendrick, Tonia Kendrick; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Michael Loughridge, Thomas and John Alan Kendrick; and nieces and nephews.
