Raymond A. Long of Chatsworth went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2016. He was born in Chatsworth on April 1, 1936 to the late S. R. & Christine Long.

He grew up in the Spring Place area and attended Murray County Schools. Mr. Long was an entrepreneur who started many businesses in Whitfield and Murray County. From 1960-1970, he was the owner of several used car dealerships in Dalton. In 1970, he founded Indian Springs Carpet Mills in Spring Place. In 1979, he, along with his two sons, founded Grass More, Inc., which specialized in artificial turf. After that, he established a new company named after his first grandson called O’Ryan Carpet. After years of being in the carpet industry, he went back to his love of selling automobiles.

Mr. Long was a lifetime member of Smyrna Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Reva Stewart.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Long; sons and daughters-in-law, Garry & Beverly Long and Mitchell & Lynne Long; stepson, Joe Hill; grandchildren, Ryan Long and wife, Brittany, Jennifer Long, Lauren Adams and husband, Brandon, Tanner Long, and Hannah Long; step-granddaughter, Chloe Hill; sister, Lavada Taylor; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Long will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 28, 2016 from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Bowen and Rev. Scott Parrish officiating. Interment will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 pm until the funeral hour at 3:00 pm.
