The Gilmer High School tennis team continued its successful season this week, with a Monday home match against Murray County and a region match on the road yesterday against Ridgeland.

Against the Murray County Indians Monday, GHS played a Pro-8 match and picked up 4-1 wins in both boys and girls action.

In boys singles action, Riley Hice downed Tucker Hemphill 8-0. Isaac Hensley beat John Reed 8-2, while Dusty Ray bested Nick Ridley 8-0.

Doubles matches featured Cole Edmondson and Chandler Cantrell besting Tucker Humble and Logan Harrison 8-6, while the duo of Sawyer Miller and John Kruze garnered the sole Murray boys victory with an 8-1 victory over Matthew Bruner and Noah Chastain.

Girls singles play featured Meredith Page picking up an 8-1 victory for the Lady Indians, over Ally Davis. Kali Malham defeated Jayden Davis 8-2, while Hope Bobak beat McKinley Moss 8-0.

Doubles matches saw Hannah Thomas and Chancey Davis picking up an 8-2 win and the duo of Katie Marick and Katie Sheahan garnered an 8-0 triumph.

In exhibition play, Lady Cats Abi Cantlay and Moriah Martin won 8-0. Mary Elizabeth Walker and Lauren Cole also picked up an 8-0 win, while Sophie Morrison fell 8-0 in a mixed singles match.

“Both teams played well,” said head GHS tennis coach Donna Parks. “They seemed to be more relaxed and attentive to their opponent. They played with a little more strategy than they have in previous matches.”

Region play started yesterday at Ridgeland. The Bobcats won 3-0, while the Lady Cats downed the Lady Panthers 4-0.

Hice defeated Austin Long 6-0, 6-0. Hensley picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Blake Curl, while Ray bested Tristan Card 6-1, 6-0.

Exhibition matches included Edmondson and Cantrell picking up an 8-6 victory and Bruner winning a singles match 8-2.

For the Lady Cats, Davis shut out Savannah Hulgan 6-0, 6-0. Malham also won 6-0, 6-0 over Sarah Meadows, while Bobak defeated Calissa Morgan 6-0, 6-1.

The doubles match featured Thomas and Davis beating Lexi Mitchell and Ally Wensits 6-1, 6-0.

An exhibition girls doubles match Marick and Sheahan picking up an 8-1 victory.

The Bobcats now sit at 5-0 (2-0 in region play), while the Lady Cats are 4-1 (1-1 in region play) for the year.

Gilmer will host Southeast Whitfield today, before traveling to Towns County tomorrow to face the Indians.
